Johannesburg: Chennai Super Kings recorded their first Champions League T20 title win after an eight-wicket victory over Chevrolet Warriors in Johannesburg


Batting first the Warriors ended up with a disappointing total of 128 after a very impressive start. The Warriors innings was once again marked by skipper Davy Jacob’s excellence. Jacobs opening the innings for the Warriors scored 34 runs. But soon after Jacob’s fall to Ashwin, the Warriors batting lost track completely and lost wickets at regular intervals. Craig Thyssen(25) down the order did offer some resistance before being dismissed by Muttiah Muralitharan.

For the CSK bowling, R Ashwin was excellent and managed to pick up two wickets, giving away just 16 runs in his spell of four overs. Muralitharan with all his experience was excellent as well, bagging three wickets and giving away just 16 runs in his spell of four overs.

R Ashwin for his terrific run throughout the series, finished up with 13 wickets in the tournament to win the golden wicket award. Muralitharan finished one wicket short of Ashwin’s mark.

Chasing a meager total of 129, the CSK openers got off to a cautious start with experienced Hussey and Murali Vjay knocking singles and twos’ and getting those odd boundaries. The duo put on a solid partnership of 103 runs before Vijay was dismissed. Vijay scored 58 runs before being dismissed by Boje. Incidentally Vijay became the highest run scorer and was awarded with the Golden bat award.

At the other end, determined Hussey made sure he saw the CSK side home with an unbeaten 51 off 46 balls with skipper M.S Dhoni at the other end. The CSK side reached the target with six balls to spare.

For the Warriors bowling, Lonwabo Tsotsobe was impressive but could not fetch any wicket. He finished with 0-14 in his spell of four overs. Spinner Boje picked up a wicket and gave away 29 runs in his spell of four overs.
